The highlight of this short but busy week has been the truly inspiring GCSE Art and Art Textiles exhibition in the Piazza this afternoon. The girls have had tremendous support from the art department: Ms Davies, Ms Pointer, Toni and Catch and their work really makes you think, smile and ‘Be Proud’. It was lovely to welcome parents, colleagues from Bow Arts and the Whitechapel Art Gallery, teachers and students to the private viewing this afternoon and hear them congratulate the girls for their creative, skilful and inspiring works of art. Akila in Year 11 proudly showed her family the portrait she had painted of her grandmother who looked amazed at the quality and beauty of Akila’s work.
The exhibition not only showcased painting but also stunning pieces of 3D art, sculpture and art textiles. The afternoon also included a fashion-show in the Assembly Hall where girls showcased the brilliant 3D accessories and garments they had designed for their GCSE. These pieces are creative, beautifully crafted and skilfully made and were stylishly modelled by students.
Sarah Bonnell School is incredibly proud of all the Year 11 Art and Art Textiles students and their teachers.
Well done girls - your work is inspiring and would hang nicely next to any famous artistic work in the Tate Modern!
