Today, after getting another week of GCSE exams successfully ticked off, we said goodbye to our wonderful Year 11 girls. Ms Cornwall, Year Leader, Mr Begley, Progress Leader, Ms Sangster, Assistant Headteacher and the brilliant Year 11 tutors said a ‘tearful but cheerful’ goodbye in a final assembly. The Year 11 team read out poems, gave motivational speeches, shared memories and quoted Martin Luther King to mark the journey the girls have been on since joining the school in 2012. Head Girl, Miriam Okotie-Tomas was cheered by the Year Group as she thanked them for the support she has had in her role and wished them all good luck for the future. Catherine Ofori and Subira Mupendwa sang a beautiful duet and the assembly finished by Mr Begley getting the whole year group to join together saying ‘Once a Sarah Bonnell Girl, Always a Sarah Bonnell Girl’. I look forward to celebrating great GCSE results with these girls on 24 August 2017 and hearing about their success in years to come.
On Tuesday Sarah Bonnell School hosted the English Speaking Union London Debate competition organised by Ms Sahebdin. A team of Sarah Bonnell debaters from Year 7 and 8 competed against students from Brampton Manor and did themselves proud! Well done to Melinah, Nafisah in 7E and Iqra, Naomi and Fiza in Year 8 – your debating skills are impressive. Be Proud.
Today I met six girls from Year 7 for ‘Hot Chocolate with the Headteacher’. The girls were pleased to be greeted with fruit ice lollies instead of hot-chocolate and showed me the bag they had designed and made as part of the Learning for Life lesson. The bag is made completely from recycled products and looks fantastic. Well done Year 7!
I wish everyone a safe and happy half-term holiday and look forward to seeing the girls in school at the usual time on Monday 5 June 2017 so we can continue to strive together to ‘Work Hard. Aim High. Be Nice. Be Proud. No Excuses.’
