Attendance and Religious Observance – Eid al-Fitr

Dear Parent(s) / Carer(s),

At Sarah Bonnell we take great pride in the excellent attendance record of our school which was well above national averages for girls at 96.5% in 2016. The reason why we place such importance upon attendance is because we know that excellent attendance helps all our girls enjoy school and make progress with their learning.

I would like to thank parents and carers for the support they give their daughter with minimising absence and ask you to ensure that your daughter continues to be in school every day until the last day of this important term on Friday 21 July. Holidays during the school term-times are not permitted and any such absence could result in a Penalty Notice being issued and would be unauthorised.

Religious Observance for Eid al-Fitr

At Sarah Bonnell School we celebrate and recognise the diverse cultural heritage of our school community and are aware that a number of our students will be marking the end of Ramadan on Sunday 25 June or Monday 26 June 2017. However school is open as usual on Monday 26 June because when the school calendar was planned in July 2016 it was anticipated that Eid al-Fitr would fall entirely during the weekend. As a result teachers have scheduled lessons and activities for the Monday 26 June that are part of the curriculum.

If you would like your daughter to be absent from school for Eid al-Fitr, please sign the absence request slip on the letter that students will receive this week and return to your daughter’s Form Tutor by Friday 23 June 2017 at the latest. Please be aware that we can only authorise one day of absence for this religious observance.

I wish all the Muslim families in our school community, students and staff, a very happy Eid and thank all parents for their continued support of the school.

Yours faithfully,
Ms Rae Potter
