The Mathematics Curriculum Area uses Edexcel Specification and units taught build on existing Key Stage 3 learning, whilst also introducing new mathematical knowledge, understanding and skills. All students follow the National Curriculum to their appropriate level, covering Statistics & Probability, Number, Algebra and Geometry & Measures. Recognising the importance of Mathematics in their own lives and in society, students learn to make informed decisions about the use of technology, the management of money, further learning opportunities and career choices.
The Maths area is well-established and very successful with 2017 GCSE results standing at 74% at grades 9-4. A*-C. The department also has a positive Progress 8 Score meaning that students achieve higher than their target grades.
Year 10 and 11
In light of new curriculum changes to GCSE, Key Stage 4 is covered in Year 10 and 11. High achieving students in Year 10 also have the opportunity if they wish to work on the AQA Certificate in Further Maths.
